Very much like classic Chinese acupuncture therapy, medical acupuncture treatments are cutting-edge techniques that are established from anatomical and neurological principles, and effectively used to help relieve a variety of conditions. You can think of the human body as a home or building that’s equipped with a wide variety of electric units, and they don’t all stay lit simultaneously. In a literal sense, as soon as you switch on a light, electricity begins to circulate into that area of your home.

Applying this concept to acupuncture, when you stick a small needle into a certain spot on your body, you’re essentially switching the electricity on in that area. Each of these special acupuncture points corresponds to a particular organ and is linked to a critical element of how your body operates, similar to how switching on certain breakers in your home’s fuse box only provides electricity to specific areas. When applied properly, medical acupuncture is a bit like switching on and balancing your entire body’s energy at once, similar to how using a central heater or air conditioner either warms or cools your whole home at one time to create an even temperature.

As the light switches in a home are flipped on one by one, the house becomes progressively brighter inside. The same process is at work with the acupuncture points or “switches” in the human body, but the results are somewhat more complex in that the mood is enhanced, hormone levels stabilize, and the immune system works much more optimally.

A lot of people are attracted to acupuncture and other alternative healing techniques because they’re not only effective methods of treating the causes of various conditions, but also because they provide a refreshingly different view of physical health from the standard therapies used in conventional Western medicine, which simply aren’t effective for many immune-related conditions. Acupuncture is also successfully used by some Western medical practitioners as an adjunct to conventional medical treatments and surgeries, enabling them to treat a broader spectrum of health conditions.

What Are the Benefits of Acupuncture For Medical Conditions?

Even though most people correlate acupuncture only with managing pain symptoms, when it’s applied by a skilled medical specialist, it can have much farther reaching uses. Medical acupuncture therapy can be successful used on its own, or as a complementary therapy for other types of medical protocols used to treat various health-related problems.

The WHO (World Health Organization) has acknowledged the benefits of acupuncture therapy in treating an array of physical maladies, which includes:

  • Digestive ailments like acidosis, gastritis, colon spasticity, bowel obstructions, and colitis.
  • Respiratory problems such as asthma, sinus infections, throat soreness, bronchial spasms, and chronic chest colds.
  • Nerve and muscle issues like migraines, face tics, stiff necks, rib pain, locked shoulder, carpal tunnel, tendonitis, sciatica, lumbar pain, and rheumatoid arthritis.
  • Problems with the urinary, menstrual, and/or reproductive systems.

In addition to these issues, medical acupuncture is especially helpful for eliminating physical complications that are linked to stress, anxiety, strain, and a variety of psychological disorders.
